Last month on Ash Wednesday, a Wausau church became part of a national effort.
Parishioners from Saint Mary's prayed and fasted for forty days outside, infront of Family Planning Health Services in hopes of ending abortion. More than a hundred volunteers in the Wausau area joined in on the "40 Days For Life" campaign.
Sunday people gathered at Saint Mary's to celebrate their success with food and drinks and to share why they believed in the campaign.
"We do it because we feel family is so crucial, life is so precious. Clearly I am pro life," says Sara Ryan.
The goal of the campaign was to better educate women that if they're going through an unwanted pregnancy, options other than abortion do exist.
Stephanie Heaton says "I want to cry out to them and pray for them. Tell them that there are other ways than birth control or the morning after pill."
The people who volunteered their time to help pray outside the Family Planning Health Services say the act was out of compassion.
Volunteers like Sara say they are there to spread love and that they are not intimidating or trying to harass anyone.
Pro-life volunteers believe the 40 days they spent outside were well worth it, even if just one woman decides against abortion.
