Some area Hmong students are learning about their culture with the help of Sunrise 7 anchor Bao Vang.
Bao stopped by D.C. Everest Middle School to talk with them about how she finds the common ground between Hmong culture and American culture.
The meeting was part of the school's "Calm Heart" program, which helps Hmong students deal with the issues of growing up in both worlds.
A school counselor says it helps them learn to appreciate their unique history.
"It really empowers the students to be the best they can be as Hmong students," says Lynn Lawson, school counselor.
The school has been putting on "Calm Heart" for the last 6 years.
