Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women. Now a study involving local kids is hoping to prevent the disease.

The study will involve 800 kids in the Wausau School District. Two hundred students from four grades will be randomly selected for the project.

First, they'll do some advanced Cholesterol tests. Then they'll do physical exams. Plus surveys about exercise and eating habits.

The goal is to identify the risk factors at an early age so they don't manifest in adulthood. So once the results are in, they'll work with the school to incorporate proactive ways to head off heart disease.
