Governor Promises State Help for Refugees

As Wausau and the rest of Wisconsin prepare to welcome thousands of new Hmong refugees, Governor Jim Doyle is detailing how the state and federal governments will help.

The governor met with the state's special advisory task force on Hmong resettlement in Madison today.

He says more than $500,000 will be provided in federal assistance to help the refugees. And he says the state will mobilized to help those moving in find a place to live.

Officials say at least 3,600 Hmong refugees are expected to settle in Wisconsin by the end of the year. They've been living in a Temple in Thailand.
