Many Civil War vets are buried at Union Cemetery in Stevens Point, but their headstones have become so worn down that they're unreadable.

That's why a group of volunteer veterans began a restoration project. Now, after a year and a half of work, new headstones are being installed.

Michael Clements if the Portage County Veterans Service Officer. He's very proud of the work they've done.

"It's to honor their memory and you don't ever want to forget the sacrifices that these Civil War vets have made for their country."

So far, 25 headstones have been replaced. The final 18 will be put in this Saturday.
