Drivers are being asked to slow down and be careful, after a little girl was hit by a car on her way to school.
The 9-year-old was struck in front of Riverview Elementary in Wausau.
It happened just before school started this morning.
The school's principal says the little girl lives on 6th Street, and was following her brother, to cross the intersection of Maple Hill Road and Troy Street.
That's when she reportedly walked in front of the car.
She was struck, and hit her head.
The girl's mother tells us she suffered a concusion, and will have her left leg splinted for a week.
The driver in the accident has not been charged or ticketed, pending an investigation.
A Wausau lieutenant says accidents like these happen more often during the spring time, when drivers aren't used to seeing so many people out on the road.
He says it's important for parents to teach their kids how to cross the roads safely when they go to and from school.
The 9-year-old was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
"We have 14 crossing guards in the city but we can't have crossing on guards every corner so its important for parents to do a good job of educating their children to and from school safely," says Lt. Ben Bliven, with the Wausau Police Department.
He says when you see those flashing lights and bright yellow sign, make sure to slow down to the 15 mile an hour speed limit, that should allow you to slow down in time, if anything were to jump in front of you.
The minimum fine in Wausau for speeding in a school zone is $101 and three points off your license.

that must have realy hert. i feel sooooooooooooo bad for the poor thing.
I drive on Bridge St every morning and watch other drivers just fly by me or get right on my tail because I'm going 25. There are at least three schools in the area and people are still driving 35 to 40 mph in the 25 mph zone and then they slam on their brakes when they get to the school zone. Come on, people! Have a little courtesy and slow down!!
Thank goodness she is ok.
