A fatal accident from Monday evening is under investigation. Thirty-five-year-old Robert Lee Vilter of Wausau was killed in a one-car crash north of Merrill.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department says Vilter was driving southbound on State Road 107 in the town of Rock Falls when his car left the roadway.
The car struck a large tree and Vilter was fatally injured. He died at the scene.
Deputies are not sure at this point what caused Vilter to veer off the road.
