The United States is urging Americans to hold off on unnecessary travel to parts of Mexico.
The warning follows a wave of violence that includes the murders of three people connected to the American consulate in Juarez.
Roughly 50 people were killed in apparent gang violence over the weekend -- more than half in Acapulco.
Since Mexico's president declared war on drug cartels in 2006, nearly 19,000 people have died in drug violence.
