GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (AP) -- Police in Grand Chute say a 13-year-old girl reported she was sexually assaulted at the Fox River Mall by a man who told her he was an Appleton police officer.
Authorities say Thursday they have confirmed the suspect is not an Appleton officer.
Police say they got a report Wednesday of a sexual assault at the mall. The victim told police she and a friend were being followed inside Target by a well-dressed man. The girl said she and her friend left, and the man followed and told them he was an Appleton police officer.
Grand Chute police say the man accused the girl of shoplifting, and ordered her friend to sit on a bench while he escorted the girl behind a garbage bin, where he sexually assaulted her.
Authorities are looking for the suspect.
