Gov. Jim Doyle has signed a law granting mothers in Wisconsin the right to breast-feed in public places.
Under the measure, anyone who interferes with a breast-feeding mother in any location she's authorized to be would face up to $200 in fines. In those locations, no one can prevent a mother from breast-feeding or tell her to cover up her breast or move.
The bill is designed to protect women who breast-feed in malls, restaurants and other places from harassment.
More than 40 other states have passed similar laws as part of a push to make breast-feeding more socially acceptable. Health officials say breast-feeding improves the health of babies and mothers.
Doyle signed the law Wednesday.

Um...Ray? There are three branches of government. Doyle didn't write the bill; he only signed it. And read again--more than 40 states also passed this type of legislation. It will be fun in November to see which screwball replaces this one. Oh, and by the way, how is that Antigo Silt Loam as the Official State Soil working out for you? Gives you chills, doesn't it?
This is what the state government has to deal with? This!?! Silly me I thought there was more important things on the agenda. Why couldn't it have been written into the law "to be done in good taste provided no secure place was available"? The minority has whined so long that they now control things to a point that YOU can get a fine for interrupting with something you disagree with in PUBLIC! Goes to show how screwball this governor is and thank GOD we don't have to worry about his stupid ideas for much longer. In the same token, now that it's public women should beware...you will be watched more...I will. Free show. Why not, if it's legal for you to make me uneasy then it's a two way street. I won't interrupt, can't, but why miss a topless show. Bon Apetite!
