Five hundred workers will lose their jobs at Stora Enso. The layoffs are in Wisconsin Rapids, Biron and Kimberly Wisconsin. The plant in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia will also see cutbacks.
Right now the plan is to do the layoffs over a three-year period. There's no word yet how many workers from each plant will be let go. A company spokesperson says the paper industry is very tough right now and that's why they must make these tough decisions.
One paper machine will shut down in Rapids before the end of the year and another could shut down in Biron next year depending on the economy.
