Wausau's aging Hmong population now has a new place to spend their days.
Tsev Kajsiab Adult Day Center hosted an Open House on Sunday at their Stewart Ave. location.
Tsev Kajsiab translates to House of Joy in English and the Program Director Kia Yang says joy is exactly what they hope to bring to Wausau.
She says this adult day center will be similar to other facilities accommodating the aging, but will include services like sewing machines, basic English, and health and nutrition information.
She says House of Joy will be a place for them to interact with each other.
"We have a lot of aging adults in our community. I think about 30% of the Wausau population is now Hmong. They need a place where they can go, relax break them out of their comfort zone and see the world a little bit," says Yang.
Wausau's Mayor Jim Tipple says older adults are a vital part of out community and they need a place to keep skills sharp.
"This is a place to socialize and learn new things, all people need to have something like this during the day."
Tsev Kajsiab will focus on Hmong and South East Asian culture but will be open to all people.
Yang says they will also have group discussions to help the seniors keep up with current events.

As one who flew, and whose men flew, electronic reconnaissance missions over northern Laos during the Indochina War, in support of our special forces working with the Hmong to fight the Pathet Lao and North Vietnamese, I tip my hat yet again to the Hmong. While it is marvelous for the elders to have their own day center, I hope they continue to interact with the community. I for one am proud they are our neighbors.
How wonderful that we are now going to have Tsev Kjsiab. Having worked extensively with the wonderful Hmong population and culture for 13 years I am so happy for our elder Hmong adults. God bless you all. Miss you!
