A night of fun and food may help area families realize their dream of a new home.
Habitat For Humanity hosted its Annual Mardi Gras Fundraiser in downtown Wausau.
For families in our area juggling with the idea of home ownership, Habitat For Humanity steps in to help.
What we are doing is allowing homeowners to build up their credit. He help families who may not have been able to get a home through a loan at a bank. These homes help everyone it increases the tax base in the community and gets these families going in the right direction," says Board Member Chris Pfender.
Since 1990 Habitat For Humanity has built more than 50 homes in the Wausau area.
The Event Coordinator Janet Lawrence says Habitat For Humanity International is throwing Fat Tuesday parties across the country.
Guests were encouraged to don festive attire, and dine on New Orleans inspired cuisine.
She says attendance is down slightly from last year but they remain optimistic that donations won't suffer.
"People here tonight recognize the mission. When Wausau Homes had to reduce their input these people stepped up to fill in the gap," says Lawrence.
Organizers hope the sights and sounds of New Orleans will bring in thousands of dollars for area families.
Lawrence says last year the event raised $17,000.
Eric's Way Entertainment provided juggling services at the event.
