Parents of children with autism now have another treatment option in Wausau.
On Monday, staff at the Achieve Center on Stewart Avenue launched a specialized program for children ages 2 to 6 years old.
The Director of the Achieve Center Carol Wesley says intense in-home therapy can be expensive.
Their new Specialized Treatment Program was designed to produce similar results at an affordable price.
"We designed the program so their aren't a lot of out of pocket expenses for parents. We're a non profit so our goal is providing the best services and covering the costs of those services," says Wesley.
The children receive several occupational, speech and language therapy individually and in small groups.
Wesley says they are working with Therapies Plus to provide those services.
The program runs five days a week (Mon.-Fri.) and for 3 and a half hours each day.
They offer morning sessions from 8:30a.m. to noon, and afternoon sessions from 12:30p.m.- 4p.m.
Parents are also required to be available 1 hour a week for training and to attend a monthly parent group in the evening.
For more information about the program call (715) 845-4900.
