Tomato Harvesting

Updated: Wed 8:07 PM, Jun 16, 2004

Canopy Gardens in Antigo is busy harvesting its hydrophonic tomatoes. The owners say they aren't any different than other tomatoes, except they're grown in volcanic rock and water.

The Augustyn family owns the gardens, and has been picking the tomatoes for the last nine seasons. Their harvesting days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday weekly, and each day, more than one ton of tomatoes are picked.

So does the family ever grow tired of the vegetable?

"We still love them, in the winter when we don't have them, we start getting really hungry for tomatoes again," says Pam Augustyn, Canopy Gardens Owner.

Canopy Gardens begins the harvest early in the spring and continue through December.
