A representative from a hotel in Stevens Point that was set to host a 'sexual freedom' party organized by a swingers group called Club NCN says they've cancelled the group's reservation. The representative sent NewsChannel 7 the following statement:

"We (the Royale Inn) were approached by Club NCN as they wished to rent out our hotels guest rooms and meeting rooms.

We do not make it a practice to question or interrogate our guests as to the nature of their business.

Persons and groups of various Sexual orientation are a Protected Class under Federal Anti Discrimination Laws and The Royale Inn and the employees of The Royale Inn do not and will not make a practice of potentially discriminating or violating ones Constitutional Rights. If the City chooses to potentially do so, that would be their decision.

The City officials have made it very clear to me that we will cancel this groups reservations or endure severe fines, revocation of licensing and/or possible closure. Do to this we have canceled this groups reservations to arrive and we will not host this group unless legal instructions are provided.

The City of Stevens Point said the party would be in clear violation of an ordinance that bans a 'sexually oriented business' from operating within 750 feet of a licensed liquor establishment. There are 2 licensed establishments near the Royale Inn.

Tuesday Marvin Thomann, who owns Club NCN and organized the party told NewsChannel 7 members of his group may just book the rooms individually if their reservation as a group has been cancelled. He says he still plans to hold the party in Stevens Point. Madison Attorney Jeff Scott Olson tells NewsChannel 7 he may represent Club NCN in the case, and he does not believe any ordinance would be violated.
