A local business is leading the way for other when it comes to supporting their employees in the military.

Today, Travel Guard in Stevens Point was awarded the "Patriot Award" for the help they give to their employees in the National Guard and Army Reserves.

Throughout the years, leaders at Travel Guard have been dedicated to the many servicemen and women they employ.

They work with those employees to adjust their schedules while on active duty.

And reassure them their job status will be the same when they get back.

The award was giving by "Employer Support For the Guard and Reserve."

Organizers say the company's effort helps the servicemen and women focus on their current task without having to worry about their jobs back home.

"Some employers they just barely tolerate the fact that some of their employees are in the guard and reserve, so when an employer actually supports them and goes above and beyond, that means that military member is more like to stay in the service. That means we have a better, stronger fighting force," says Marcia Ledlows with the 'Employer Support For The Guard and Reserve.

Travel Guard was nominated by one of their employees, Staff Sergeant Calvin Friendenfels, who is currently in Iraq.

He wrote that the company has paid the difference between his active military salary and the money he normally received working for Travel Guard.

Travel Guard has also been in contact with him while he is deployed.

Organizers are currently accepting nominations for next year's Patriot Award.
