Family Cranberry Business Expanding

From growing them to making tasty cranberry syrup, they've done it all. Cheryl and Dan Urban come from a cranberry growing family in Wisconsin Rapids so it wasn't a big stretch to get into cranberry processing. They produce 3,000 pounds of dried cranberries at their small plant every day.

It all began with an employee's suggestion that mixing dried fruit with syrup gave you a delicious cranberry treat and Urban's first retail product, Cranberry Fruit Topping and Filling was born. The gourmet products are available across Wisconsin now, mostly in specialty food stores.

Urban says what makes their cranberries stand out is the way they sweeten them before they're dried. Cheryl and her husband say the business wouldn't be possible without the tremendous support of their family and friends.

"There's only so much as a family you can do," says co-owner Cheryl Urban, "We wanna make sure we do it right. We take the time and we're in the plant on a daily basis making sure that the quality is there.”

The Urban business is adding a second shift in July because of the large demand for their product. The Urban’s will be donating cranberry syrup for the upcoming June Dairy Breakfast at Centralia Center on June 25, and to take a look or order some cranberry products for yourself, head over to for a complete list.
