A so-called mega farm may be setting up shop in Taylor County.

The owners of North Breeze Dairy bought land about 3 miles south of Medford.

"There's some place somewhere for an operation this size but this particular location is not that,"says Neil Micke.

The retired farmer live about 1.5 miles from a proposed 4,000 cow dairy farm.

He and other members of the community are concerned that a 132 acre farm will contaminate and drain the Town of Little Black's water resources.

"I don't want a 4,000 cow operation in our township if it's taking resources which the main resource we have is water if it dries up 15-25 wells and people have to dig wells deep like they have we're going to have a problem," says Town chairman Daniel Hoffman.

They expressed their concerns to the Taylor County Land Conservation Committee.

But the Finance Manager Brian Gerrits for North Breeze Dairy say their farm won't impact water in the town.

"If we impact a neighbor's well in our definition of a neighbor we'll take care of it but they want more than that. They wanted a broader definition of neighbor and they wanted a caddy of money they can lap into basically making us guilty before proven innocent," says Gerrits.

Both sides say they want to help revitalize the state's dairy industry without negatively impacting people's quality of life.

The Taylor County Land Conservation Committee is scheduled to vote on the proposal at a meeting on February 12th.

I feel sorry for those people close to this if it happens. 4000 cows on 132 acres is pretty thick. I personally have 50 cows on 200 acres and they can mess up things even at this size. Hope it is turned down. The desert is here it needs to be. Away from "real" farms. A dry lot dairy is not a farm. It's a place for a cow to stand.
