A local group is working to save the fish population in the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir.
They raised more than 32,000 to update old equipment.
For the next two weeks the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir Citizen Organization, or BEPCO, will be replacing the equipment that's used to put more oxygen into the water.
Last year, the reservoir's aerator wasn't working properly, causing nearly 80 percent of the water's fish population to die.
Workers have begun welding a new support structure for the more than 18,000 feet of aerator tubing.
The tubes will pump air into the water, keeping the reservoir's oxygen level at a safe amount for the fish.
This equipment is especially needed at places like the Big Eau Pleine where the water level has been drawn down significantly.
Organizers expect the installation to be complete within the next two weeks, but they're asking for your help to keep them on schedule.
Volunteers are needed Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir boat landing off of Highway 153 in Mosinee, to help place all of the tubing in the water.
Organizers say helping increase the fish population is greatly needed.
The reservoir brings thousands of anglers into our area each year, boosting the economy.
