Congressman Dave Obey is weighing in on the skyrocketing prices at the pump. He says the U.S. had the answer to lower gas prices more than 20 years ago.
The democrat says Congress had been working on ways to wean America off Middle Eastern oil during the Ford and Carter presidencies in the 1970's, but Congress then ended the funding for gas alternative research during the 80's.
"If we had done the right thing 10-15 years ago on a consistent basis we would be in a better position today, we'd be less reliant on oil and we would be less reliant on the Middle East," said Obey.
Obey says the country needs to focus on several gas alternatives such as solar power, hybrid and hydrogen powered cars.
