Granite Peak was hoping to open Thanksgiving weekend but was forced to delay several time because of the weather. Now that Wisconsin is starting to look more like it should for the winter season people are waiting in line for tickets.
"We got a little bit of a late start but if you look around you can see we are making up for it we are having an incredible holiday season here...We've got some really strong numbers and a lot of families coming in and we've had a colorful week so it is just great," Operations Manager Vicki Vaumann said.
One of the many families head to Granite Peak is the Ingle family that heard about our own Rib Mountain all the way in Chicago.
"We like to ski and we heard that granite peak was the best Midwest skiing around and some of our friends came last year for new years so we figured we'd give it a try," said Bev Ingle.
Locals will be pleased to hear it meets the approval of both the old and the young.
Fourteen year old Jackson Ingle offered his critique, "I've been to a lot of Midwest skiing places they're not at all as good as this one because they are basically a landfill with some fake snow on it." his sister Olivia added, "Its just fun, and you can go on lifts with your friends and ski down and talk and have hot cocoa it all just really fun."
But for the Ingles the trip is not only about skiing, it is about a chance to be together.
"We all have really busy schedules so its nice to all be able to be together and have fun," said Isabelle to which her dad agreed. "We're all here kind of captive doing the same activity and allows us to spend some family time that can be difficult to do," Bill said.
The Operations Manager said that even though attendance is making up for a late start they still have some fine tuning to do. "We're going to continue to make as much snow as possible and get all the runs open, right now we're about 80% open and we hope that the cold temperatures to continue," said Vaumann.
So with a little luck and some help from mother nature our slow start to winter should barely be noticed.
