People with asthma need to take a few extra steps to keep themselves healthy this winter.
Doctors say asthmatics are more likely to have complications from the common cold and flu.
The cold and flu can cause inflammation in your airways, making it harder for you to breathe.
And doctors say that can't be fixed with standard rescue inhalers.
"The most common rescue inhaler, a medication called Albuterol, relaxes your bronchial smooth muscles, but underlying that, there's inflammation and Albuterol does nothing to reverse inflammation," says Dr. Bart Hobson with the Marshfield Clinic.
Doctor Hobson suggests carrying a Cortico-Steroid inhaler along with your regular rescue inhaler.
He says this inhaler will reduce inflammation and help keep you from having a serious asthma attack.
