Monroe County authorities say three people have been injured in two separate accidents involving Amish buggies.

The first happened early Saturday morning in the township of Wilton.

Deputies say a 45-year-old Norwalk man swerved his pickup truck to avoid a buggy, but lost control on the slippery road and hit the buggy.

WKBT reports the horse was killed. The 18-year-old driver and his 17-year-old brother were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The second happened Sunday evening in the township of Wellington.

A female from Kendall also swerved to avoid a buggy, causing her vehicle to roll twice. She was thrown from the vehicle and ended up pinned beneath it.

She was also hospitalized with injuries that weren't life-threatening.

keep the buggies off the roads in the winter time use cars,no reason for them to be on the road during bad conutions.

Sometimes seeing these buggies with out lights and beat up slow moving vehicle signs in a snow storm are not easy. And usually hills and corners are involved. Maybe if they had to have tail lights or some kind of light so people could see them. If you ride a bike at night and get hit someone would say why didn't that bike have a light on it. These things are no different just bigger.

I agree with the last commentor, why would there be any reason to have to swerve, other than not paying attention, we just had a major storm what reason was there such a hurry? We passed at least 10 buggies yesterday and gave them plenty of room, slowed down and when there was no trafic on the other side crossed over for even more room. Now due to not paying attention and two young men and a women are non-life threating injuries are in the hospital and ONE dead horse who was just doing his duty as he did every day, Give the Amish a break and start paying attention, put yourself in their shoe's.
