Days of rain and snow are creating the perfect mixture for dangerously slippery roads.
"We did have to shut down some lanes as we recovered some vehicles from the ditch, that did cause some back ups," says Sgt. Travis Wanless with the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Traffic is now flowing on Northbound Highway 51, but that wasn't the case this morning.
Several accidents sent two people to the hospital and brought traffic to a stand still.
Sgt. Wanless says a semi truck collided with a squad car in Marathon County around 7 this morning, and ever since then they have been responding to vehicle accidents.
Lt. Kevin Gray with the Marathon County Sheriff's Department says an officer from the Mosinee Police Department was responding to a car in the ditch, when his squad was hit.
Lt. Gray says the semi jack knifed and his rear trailer slammed in to the squad car.
The officer was treated and released from the hospital. The truck driver was cited for failure to have control of your vehicle.
For nearly 3 hours, the snow covered roads snarled traffic from Highway 153 in Mosinee to highway DB in Lake Du Bay, in Portage County.
As the State Patrol and the Sheriff's Department were routing traffic and handling the first crash several other accidents happened on the same stretch of the highway.
"As a result of the back ups and traffic entering the back up at a high rate of speed with it still being somewhat slippery because of the snow we had over the last couple of days we did have a semi that struck two vehicles."
Sgt. Wanless says the two people involved in that three vehicle crash were taken to the hospital.
Their conditions are unknown at this time and their names and ages aren't being released.
No tickets have been issued yet, but the State Patrol plans to continue their investigation.
Sgt. Wanless is advising all of us to slow down, especially if you see flashing lights on the side of the road.
If you don't, they may be called to help get your vehicle out of a ditch.
