The weather outside is frightful. The Wisconsin State Patrol is asking you not to risk being on the roads.
Since Thursday morning, troopers have responded to several wrecks, some of them causing injuries. They've made several calls to towing companies for drivers who fell into the ditch.
Overall, Sgt. Travis Wanless says it's been a relatively quiet night.
"My experience tonight is that people are slowing down. I think we've gotten our message out that it's better to stay home with conditions the way they are. It's hazardous, the roads are slippery and it can be a little deceptive with the snow, sleet mix that we're getting."
The trooper reminds you that if you must travel Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, increase your following distance, reduce speeds and designate a sober driver if you've been drinking. An emergency kit inside your vehicle could also save your life. It should include water, a blanket and fully-charged cell phone.
Up to date road conditions are always available if you call 511.
