A Ho-Chunk attorney says a Wausau casino could generate $40 million in profits for the tribe each year.

Lawyer William Boulware says tribal leaders have examined at least 20 locations in the Wausau area as it searches for a fourth casino site.

The tribe expects a Wausau casino could attract two million gamblers annually.

Wausau Mayor Linda Lawrence says she began talking about a casino with Ho-Chunk leaders last spring, but no specific proposals have been offered.

Boulware says the tribe would like a decision on whether to develop a casino in Wausau made before its compact with the state is due for review in Dec. 2003.

The tribe now runs casinos on reservation land near Nekoosa, Black River Falls and Baraboo.
