Police officers are asking you to be cautious while finishing up your holiday shopping, as car break-ins are on the rise.
The Wausau Police Department says they see a spike in break-ins every Christmas season because people forget some simple rules while shopping.
"The majority of the car break ins will be caused because there's valuables visible. Whether that's a purse, cash, or even change that's visible," said Chief Jeff Hardel.
The chief says if you need to leave valuables in your car while running around, you should keep them out of sight or even lock them in your trunk.
He also suggests carrying less cash with you while shopping to help deter pick pockets.
