Kids at the Wausau Center Mall were learning how to play safely Saturday.
They took part in the Safe Summer Kids program, an effort aimed at teaching youngsters safe and responsible practices such as wearing life jackets when on the water and helmets when on their bikes.
"Bike helmets make a huge difference. Repeated studies have shown that you can cut down your chance of injury by 85 percent by wearing a bike helmet," said Dr. Ellen Schumann, Marshfield Clinic Pediatrics.
Any child who was there Saturday was able to pick up a free helmet and have it specially fitted for their head.
In addition to bike and water safety, kids were also taught about the dangers of the sun's UV rays and how to protect themselves from sunburns.
