Women's Heart Health

Teaching women how to prevent heart disease is the goal of the Badger Heart Program, held Tuesday in Stevens Point.

Throughout the afternoon women could get their cholesterol, blood pressure and bone density checked free of charge. They also learned how to stay active, eat healthy, and manage their stress.

Former Wisconsin First Lady Sue Ann Thompson founded the Wisconsin Women's Health Foundation and says women need to take their own health seriously.

"Women are caregivers and they spend so much time worrying about their family's health that they sometimes neglect their own,” she says.

All the women who participated in Tuesday's event will be part of a six-month study by the Ministry Health Care to monitor women's heart health in Wisconsin.
