Crews are cleaning up thousands of dollars in damage after vandals struck a local golf course.
According to the Wausau Police Department, sometime overnight someone drove through the American Legion golf course in Wausau, tearing up two fairways. They also drove through wire fencing along the edge of the course, damaging their own car in the process.
Ground superintendent Willie Warner estimates the damages at about $4,000 since they'll have to reseed most of the two fairways.
Warner says the vandalism is upsetting because the American Legion does so much for the community.
"We do a lot for the youth, Boy Scout troops, baseball teams, scholarships. I just hope someone comes forward and turns someone in," said Warner.
If you have any information you can call the Marathon County Sheriff's Department at 261-1200. The golf course is offering a reward to anyone with information.
