The memorial service held at the Everest Metro Police Department for National Law Enforcement Week included officials and citizens from around Marathon County. Guest speakers included Assistant Attorney General David Perlam and State Rep. Jerry Petrowski.

"Most police officers have made that decision that the community's life, the public's life, is more important than theirs, and that's huge," says Chief Dan Vergin, Everest Metro Police Department.

Inspirational words and songs were delivered were delivered by family members of fallen officers, including a daughter of a local deputy, Jeffrey Sheets, who lost his life 10 years ago.

The National Law Enforcement Week was spearheaded by President John F. Kennedy in 1962. This year, more than 15,000 officers have lost their lives in the line of duty, including two in Wisconsin.
