Remember the good old days when you could get a locally grown tomato that really tasted like a tomato?
Several big food safety scares over the last year have a growing number of folks buying fruits, vegetables and other produce from local farmers markets.
While many items may not necessarily be organic, local farmers say more people are asking questions like where the produce is grown and when it was picked.
The Wausau farmers market on River Drive kicked off its season nearly two weeks ago and this year vendors are expecting a boom in business.
It's open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until the vendors sell out.
The Wausau farmers market is one of several open-air markets in the area.
