WI Unemployment

Wisconsin's unemployment rate dropped ever-so-slightly last month to 4.7 percent. That's down two-tenths of a percent from June.

State labor officials say the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate shows the job market is slowly returning to economic stability.

Wisconsin is still ahead of the national average of 5.9 percent in July.

State economist Terry Ludeman says the slight drop in the unemployment rate is typical for this time of year, as some job seekers stop looking and student workers quit to take vacations.

He says Wisconsin's job market is seeing some general recovery from the problems after Sept. 11.

The state Department of Workforce Development says nearly 145,000 Wisconsinites were of out of work in July.
