CAMBRIDGE, Wis. (AP) -- An 81-year-old woman from Iowa who got confused and went on a 14-hour road trip into Wisconsin finally walked into the right cafe.
Last month, Audrey Hogan left her home in New Albin at 6 a.m. to pick up a friend for a drive to Waterloo. She never showed up at her friend's house, and at 8 p.m. that night she walked into Chris' Curve Cafe in Cambridge and said she was lost.
Turns out she was more than 100 miles from home, in the opposite direction of where she was headed. Family members tell the Wisconsin State Journal that Hogan had been suffering from spells of minor dementia.
Fortunately, the cafe's owners, Ron and Khristine Perks, both had worked in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. They recognized Hogan's condition and comforted her, eventually piecing together enough information to contact her family.
In Cambridge, the village board passed a proclamation honoring the Perks for their kindness.
