Neither the city nor the tribe is ready to play their cards just yet, but a representative with the Ho-Chunk Tribal Nation was in Wausau Monday discussing a possible casino and convention center with city leaders.
The two sides are discussing things like the economic impact of a casino complex, the size of the facility, traffic flow and a location.
The tribe says the project could generate up to 800 jobs and pump millions into the local tax base.
Gaming compacts allow the Ho-Chunk to build a fourth casino in the state and the tribe has been looking for an additional site for years.
Meetings right now are preliminary.
