It was 50 years ago this month that the Supreme Court decided segregated schools were unconstitutional. In honor of that landmark decision local fifth-graders wrote essays discussing what equality means to them.
Winners were chosen by a panel of judges consisting of members of the Marathon County Bar Association.
Monday the kids got to read their essays at the Marathon County Courthouse as part of the Law Day festivities.
"Law Day" is a nationally recognized day set aside to celebrate the legal profession.
