The fishing season got underway Saturday underneath some bright blue skies in central Wisconsin.
Countless anglers, some of them avid fishermen, and others well, not so much, took to the state's waters in search of the big one.
Around Wausau, it was a family affair for the fishing groups that we talked with Saturday.
Fred Hendrickson was out with his son on Lake Wausau, taking the boat he bought Friday for its first test drive.
"I'm not really an avid fisherman, so it's just take the boat out and let him have some fun," said Fred Hendrickson, owner of a new boat.
Walt Petersen and his two sons Adam and Ryan didn't need a boat to go fishing, and for the bluegills they were after, they didn't need to wait until Saturday, which is when you can legally catch walleye and trout.
"This is probably our second weekend into it, so we're hoping to get a few, but I don't know if this cold weather will shut 'em off or not," said Petersen.
In all, Department of Natural Resources officials say this should be a banner fishing year in Wisconsin. The DNR estimates about two million people will be dropping their lines in the state this year and those anglers are expected to pump $2.3 billion into the state's economy.
