Poaching Before Opener

There were those who tried to get a jump on the walleye season in northern Wisconsin. They got caught, and now they're paying the fines.

Illegal anglers on two lakes north of Minocqua are now facing up to $2,100 in fines for taking walleyes out of a refuge before the opener.

Conservation officers are happy they were able to catch the poachers, but say they still need the public's help to crack down on future offenses.

"If you see people by water, if you see people with landing nets, dip nets, ya know that's something to definitely give us a call about," said Mike MacKenzie, Conservation Warden.

MacKenzie asks if you see anything suspicious, please call your local Sheriff's Department.
