Wausau has a new landmark.
A sculpture with a message of peace was unveiled downtown this afternoon.
It was the idea of an Egyptian exchange student at NTC.
And it was his idea that captured the attention of leaders in different parts of the world.
It a five letter word, translated in Arabic, Spanish, and even Braille.
But no matter what language you speak, the message of "peace" in downtown Wausau is hard to miss.
This sculpture is the brainchild of exchange student Moustafa Saleh.
While the creation was his idea, he says it would have never happened without the help of the Wausau community.
"That's coming from your money, that's coming from your help, that's coming from your support," says Saleh.
The nearly year long project just hasn't captured the attention of locals, it's also created quite a buzz in the nation's Capitol.
"Secretary Clinton thought it was very important for someone from the State Department be here in Wausau today, to be a part of this ceremony," says Richard Riley with the U.S. State Department.
But the project doesn't stop here, Moustafa plans on creating an exact replica of the Peace Sculpture thousands of miles away.
"I will try to create it in Egypt, so it will be like a bridge of people between here and the United States and Egyptians," says Saleh.
A bridge started by one man with a simple idea of peace.
Saleh will complete his Engineering degree at NTC next month.
He plans to return to Egypt at the beginning of the year.
