Kronenwetter Makes Decision On Police

Right now the Marathon County Sheriff's Department patrols the village of Kronenwetter, but since growing to more than 5,000 people, state law requires the village to provide more protection.

At Monday night's village board meeting city officials voted unanimously to have one officer work an eight hour shift, five days a week.

Village administrator Henry Luxem says first they'll try contracting that service out to Everest Metro Police, Rothschild Police, or the Sheriff's Department.

"If there's interest, we'll discuss further with them. If there's not interest, then we'll go forward with the development of our own Police Department.”

If the village decides to create its own department, they'll start by hiring a chief sometime this summer.
