The FBI's annual report ranks cities across the U.S. Because Wausau has a low rate of assaults, armed robberies, rapes and homicides, the bureau says it's the fifth safest small city in the nation.
"I think community policing has a better chance for success here because we have a valuable community and the people care about the community," says Wausau Police Chief Bill Brandimore.
Brandimore attributes the honor to his dedicated police force and the citizens in the community. Wausau was the only Wisconsin city to make the list this year.
