Relatives of one man who was killed and another who was hurt are taking the first step toward a lawsuit for a crash on Highway 51 last July. The widow of David Nicewander filed a claim with the Mosinee Fire District seeking half a million dollars.

The rescue worker left paralyzed in that crash, Matt Deicher and his wife, have also filed a claim. Investigators say the wreck was caused by the ambulance driver going too fast for conditions. It was raining at the time and the tires were worn.

If the Mosinee Fire District refuses to pay, the people who filed the claim can pursue a lawsuit.
