Rome's New Fire Chief

John Frantz wants the Town of Rome to know they have fire protection.

Two-weeks ago 24 members of the fire department said they were resigning to protest the hiring of Frantz. That left the force with only two members.

Tuesday, Rome has 28 paid on-call firefighters, because 11 people chose not to resign and new members have been signing up every day.

The new recruits are eager, but raw.

Frantz says the only way to put the controversy surrounding his hiring to rest is for the department to do their job.

Rome has already had a few training sessions for the new members, and they say they could be fully trained in four to six months.

Despite the controversy, Frantz says he would still take back any of the previous firefighters if they chose to return.
