The fire happened shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday night at 1120 S. 10th Ave. Officials say it started in one of the bedrooms of the two-story home.

The residents escaped without injury.

Officials say they knew that it was important to keep their hydrant clear, and hope others will follow their example.

"The hydrant being easily accessed is one of the most important things that the citizens can do for us," says Captain Tom Leslie from the Wausau Fire Department.

Leslie says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire caused smoke and water damage in the home.
