Walking Path's Chances Still Alive

A plan to reduce parking at the Marathon County Public Library won't be going through.

As part of all the new development in downtown Wausau, the city had planned to reduce parking to about a dozen spots in order to put in a walking path.

A few weeks ago, concerned citizens started a petition to save the library parking.

This past week, the City Council adopted a plan that would keep the parking lot as is, but Mayor Linda Lawrence says that doesn't mean a pedestrian path down to the river won't still happen.

"I've been approached by some community members to ask if there's a way to get at least a walking trail down there with leaving the existing parking and I think that's a good idea, we'd be very open to that," said Lawrence.

Lawrence says the city will hold meetings to discuss options for adding a pedestrian path that would lead from the parking lot to the river.
