The Mayor of Rhinelander is hoping to get his point across, after he was accused of being anti-gun.
Richard Johns says he, along with more than 400 other mayors across the country, joined the group "Mayors Against Illegal Guns."
It's a group meant to keep those weapons of city streets.
Richard Johns, Rhinelander's Mayor says, "Extremely surprised! I didn't think anything of it."
Mayor Johns says these post cards are being sent to local NRA members, saying "Your Mayor, Richard Johns joined an anti-gun group."
He's also received about a half dozen calls and emails about this membership with the group, "Mayors Against Illegal Guns."
Johns says, "Some of them are and I don't care to comment about that. Most of them weren't from the City of Rhinelander, I don't know where they're coming from."
Johns says he still supports the Second Amendment, just not illegal weapons.
He says, "That's part of being in the USA Legal ownership of guns and we have that right. Illegal weapons, that's what I support, when somebody tells me they're not supporting the illegal weapons, I don't understand that."
But the National Rifle Association says something like this could lead them to lose their rights to bear arms.
Buster Bachhuber, NRA Director says, "It's sold to the mayors as being anti-illegal guns, which is disingenuous."
Local NRA Director Buster Bachhuber says he believes mayors like Richard Johns don't realize the ramifications of joining this group.
Mayor Johns say for now, he will continue to be a member of the group against illegal weapons remaining on city streets.
Bachhuber says, "If the mayor wants to take that position, that's his option and the voters have their options."
