Wausau may be close to finding a developer to build the downtown luxury condominiums, according to Wausau Mayor Linda Lawrence.
The project would cost about $6 million.
Lawrence admits that Wausau isn't a market for high-end condos, but says the tax benefits the city would receive from the project would be worth the money spent.
"I think it's a good plan. We have quite a few people interested in buying these units, mainly to live there, but also some for investment," said Lawrence.
Lawrence says the city met with a potential investor and contractor for the project earlier this week. She is hoping to move forward with a developer as soon as possible.
The mayor hopes to start construction this spring.
