A hairy situation in Wisconsin Rapids has a no-kill group fighting to get its cats back.
The non-profit organization Felines for You says it was bullied by the city to surrender 10 of its cats to the South Wood County Humane Society.
But the city says the group never had the proper license in the first place.
Felines for You prides itself on being the only no-kill cat group in Wisconsin Rapids.
But the city says it doesn't have the proper license to run a shelter out of Kim McTavish's home.
Felines for You was given a pet exemption in October, which allowed it to house nine cats and three dogs.
The Wisconsin Rapids City Attorney says she stopped by the McTavish's home where the cats were held on February 1.
She told us there were at least 55 cats there, 25 of which were quarantined for illness.
But Felines for You says they're not doing anything wrong and only adopt out healthy cats.
The City Attorney says if Felines For You wants to run a no-kill shelter, it has to do it in a separate building.
Until that happens, most of the cats have been fostered or adopted out.
If you're interested in adopting one, South Wood County took in 10 that are being given away for free.
It's address is:
South Wood County Humane Society
90 Pepper Avenue
Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494
(715) 423-0505
Wood County's City Attorney says it'lll give Felines for You a couple weeks to check for compliance.
If it is not, it could be fined.
