Red Light for WI Teens

It's been a three-month long red light for some Wisconsin teens.

Some of the state's youngsters, who were hoping to land an appointment for a driver's license road test, have had to wait more than three months.

Summer delays for the coveted plastic card aren't unheard of, but the problem is worse than usual this year. That's because the number of driver's license applicants is up about 12 percent from a year ago, and up 34 percent from the winter months.

DMV officials also say there are fewer road-test examiners because of state government budget cuts and hiring freezes.

So, what do you do if you just can't wait to hit the road?

DMV officials suggest scanning the Internet for canceled appointments or going to another county where the wait isn't as long.
